New blue Pantone colour Natural Optimism will give you an instant psychological lift

Twinings Infusions and Pantone have officially identified the colour of optimism – and all you need to do is look up at the sky to see it.

Twinings Infusions and Pantone have created a new colour called Natural Optimism – an airy shade of blue designed to give us all an instant psychological lift.

Natural Optimism reminds people of blue skies and summer, and has been created as a much needed pick-me. Research by tea brand Twinings shows that recent global events such as the election of Donald Trump, Brexit, and the upcoming snap election has left the nation feeling rather downbeat.

Results revealed some 12.8 million Brits do not feel optimistic in their day-to-day lives, but people feel more optimistic when they see beautiful blue skies (56 per cent) and blooming flowers (46 per cent), so Twinings and leading colour experts Pantone created this natural colour to replicate those feelings.

‘While cool in temperature, blues – particularly the softer mid-tone shades – speak to spring and summer when all of nature’s colours are in full bloom,’ says Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Colour Institute. ‘Twinings’ Natural Optimism, an airy and weightless blue shade with an undertone of sunny yellow warmth, uniquely conveys this feeling of delight. From blue skies to bluebells, Natural Optimism is reminiscent of the naturally occurring blues in the UK at this time of year.’

Anyone can see Natural Optimism over the next few months, just by simply going outside and enjoying the sights of nature.

According to the research, low levels of optimism across the nation has a knock-on effect on our overall wellbeing. Those who feel optimistic are more likely to smile or laugh more (56 per cent), make plans with friends (22 per cent) or take a long walk outside (21 per cent).

Almost nine in 10 Brits (89 per cent) said they believe that being outdoors and enjoying nature makes them feel more optimistic about life.

Vicky Keenan, head of brand at Twinings, explains: ‘When you feel optimistic, the feeling is utterly contagious. Optimism has a knock-on effect and when life feels brighter, we’re more likely to make positive choices that make us feel good inside and out.

‘We’re hoping that by officially identifying the colour that makes you feel more optimistic, and encouraging people to get outside to spot it, we can make people across the nation feel good.’

To encourage Brits to go out and look for Natural Optimism and enjoy all that nature has to offer, Twinings Infusions will be giving away packs of its Fruit Infusions to 100 people who find the colour and snap a picture of it. Visit www.twinings.co.uk/colour-natural-optimism for more information.
